A man who killed and sexually raped his 16-year-old sister in a Hamilton park has been sentenced to at least 22 years in prison.
Two days after she was last seen, on November 28, 2021, Amber Gibson’s body was discovered in Cadzow Glen. After strangling Amber, Connor Gibson, 20, removed his clothing, called the children’s home where Amber was staying, and pretended that she was still alive.
Lord Mulholland, the judge, characterised his crimes as truly terrible.Gibson was sentenced to life in prison and must complete at least 22 years of his sentence before he can ask for parole.
Another man who was convicted of tampering with Amber’s body was sentenced to nine years in prison.
On Sunday, November 28, Amber’s body was found in Cadzow Glen, a park close to the town’s heart, concealed by bushes and branches. Her clothing were discovered nearby, and her corpse was buried in muck.
Gibson paid tribute to his sister on Facebook two days later, and the next day he was taken into custody for her murder.
Gibson was accused of stripping Amber of her clothes and assaulting her during a 13-day trial at the High Court in Glasgow.
Gibson vehemently rejected the accusations. The teen had been “appallingly” slain, according to the prosecution, by the sibling she must have trusted.
